Getting Your Cat Exercise

views the best pictures

There is a common misconception throughout the world that a cat, just like a dog, needs to get exercise. Unlike dogs, when cats were in the wild, they did not run in packs and rarely had to go into a full sprint to escape an enemy. However, this does not mean that getting exercise is a bad thing. There are many ways that you can help your cat to get exercise without having to do much at all.
When it comes to cat exercise, there are two key components to always remember. Intensity and duration. By planning exercises that are based around these two concepts, you can help to fine tune your cat's fast-twitch fibers in their muscles, which are what cats use the most of. This means that they are really more of sprinters, than marathon runners, so it really does not take too long to tire them out completely.
A good way that you can interact with your cat and give them some exercise is by getting a toy that they like and making them chase around the room and try and catch it. It could be just a small mouse that you throw and they chase after or you could tie a ribbon to a stick and have your cat try and jump and grab it. These two different strategies will allow your cat to use their whole body and they will soon become very tired.
If you want to find a way to get your cat to exercise on their own, then you should invest in a kitty condo or a climbing tree. These things are great for getting your cat exercise because they have to continuously lift their entire body weight to reach the upper platforms.
If you find that you have trouble motivating your cat to exercise, then try using catnip in the toys you are using to see if that may draw their interest a little more.
Another great way to help your cat get exercise is to find them a companion that they can play with. This could be done by getting a new kitten, finding one of your friends that has a cat that is energetic, or even by having some young kids come over and give your cat a little attention.
Remember that it is very easy to get your cats to exercise and it can also be a great bonding moment between you and your cat.
