My Two Rescue Cats Were Getting Into Everything

views the best pictures

When left to their own devices cats will play with the things that are not for cats. Ever have your toilet paper shredded into a gigantic mess? Ever find your car keys under the couch when you're absolutely sure you left them on the table? Have you ever seen your window blinds used as a ladder?
When visiting the local animal shelter looking for a new addition to the family, there were two kittens from the same litter that were still waiting for adoption. Long after their siblings and their mother had been adopted there they were begging me to take them home. After holding them and playing with them I couldn't resist and home they came. Being young cats they were mischievous and kept me busy on a daily basis. They were literally into everything. Let's see, the toilet paper was reduced to a shredded mess on a daily basis. Car keys had to be kept in a drawer. They found items from (who knows where) that had been given up for lost eons ago. They even found a way to use the window blinds as ladders!
They were in need of cat toys to entertain themselves and stay out of trouble. Someone told me about an online store that carried all kinds of cat toys. Not knowing what type of toy would entertain them the most, I selected some of the bulk toys. Very quickly the toys arrived and they were delighted. They spend countless hours batting these things around together and sometimes each plays with his own toy until they exhaust themselves and then a short catnap is in order only to awaken and get right back into those cat toys.
The stove, dishwasher and refrigerator have become a toy bank. There are countless toys that have been batted under these appliances. Those little mice go straight to the back of any waiting appliance and accumulate like crazy. When they sit in front of the dishwasher with that "look" on their faces, I know that some precious mouse or ball has been eaten by the appliance. They don't stop looking at me until I fish their favorite toy out with a yardstick. While I'm at it I find dozens of other toys that have found their way under there as well. Their little faces light up when I pull all of these things out, it's like Christmas when they see all those toys that were lost and forgotten about!
About once a month, I order a few more toys so that they have a variety of things to play with. Bulk toys offer a wide variety of toys and are inexpensive.
They have adjusted nicely to their new home, love their toys and thankfully amuse themselves with their toys as opposed to getting into other things. The toilet paper is now safe and intact, the car keys are not interesting enough anymore. The window blinds now accumulate dust instead of being used as ladders. It's just so amazing that cat toys now have their attention and they no longer have an interest in the things that they shouldn't play with.
