You love your Cat. How do I know? Because you are reading this now. It's amazing how just a look into their eyes or a little stretch or meow and you smile. That's because your cat, like other animals, are tied to nature and have a certain other type of intelligence that we as humans are more prone to be disconnected from. That happened when the apple was bitten,so to speak. I don't mean to get to heavy.
Anyway, as incredible as nature is, nature presents us with challenges. Ticks are one of those. If your cat goes outside, the chances of getting ticks are raised by a major factor. If you have a dog and a cat, the dog may bring ticks into your home and spread them to your cat (and you).
Ticks live off of their "hosts" blood. They are parasites. Hey, they are just trying to "make a living" in the most natural sense. Ticks can spread disease. Sometimes these diseases can be spread to humans. Lyme Disease is a perfect example of that. The official name for Lyme disease is Lyme Borreliosis. Make sure to memorize this. Then if you have to go to a vet or even your doctor, you can impress him or her with your vast medical and scientific knowledge.Perhaps he or she will be so impressed, you will get a discount on the bill. Hey, whatever works!
Humidity and warmth are weather conditions that ticks thrive in. Ticks that carry Lyme Disease live in the Northern Hemisphere. That's a big area. You really need to be on the lookout for Lyme disease because it's very nasty. Symptoms include joint swelling, lethargy, swelling of the lymph nodes, loss of appetite, and when it's very, very bad, kidney failure. That's a long list of bad stuff so you need to be careful not to let your beloved feline fall prey to these nasty critters.
If your cat is outside and happens to brush up against a leaf or branch, that's the place the ticks like to stay. It's pretty amazing that they would figure that out,but nature is amazing. After hitching a ride on your cat, they cleverly stick their hypostome into your cat's skin and start to suck the blood from your cat.
It's a good idea to inspect your cat often for ticks and other abnormalities you might find. When your hanging out watching TV or whatever just gently go through the pets hair inch by inch, very gently. I'm sure your cat will appreciate the attention.
