Five Reasons To Insure Your Cat

views the best pictures

Whether your cat is a "indoor" or "outdoor" cat, moggy or pedigree, long-haired or short-haired; they all have similar biological traits and can suffer minor to severe ailments. You might be thinking: "but he/she never gets sick or injured!", thinking happily of your beloved moggie who never puts a paw out of line. However, all cats are fallible; have you thought about the "what if"?
What if he/she has an accident or he/she gets ill? What if you need to take time off work to care for them; how will you pay the vet bills? The cost of a broken leg - a fairly mundane injury - is a staggering $3,000 - can you afford that without warning? Cat insurance will give you that peace of mind so if something happens to them, you can get them the relevant treatment that they need. Here are five reasons that you should insure your cat.
1. Hyperactive Kitty
There is not a cat that we have met or come across that doesn't have "hyper" moments. Cats can get rowdy at any point in the day, particularly the evening or night when you're trying to sleep. They like to jump off furniture, literally climb the walls or maybe decide to claw up to the top of the curtain pole. Reading that, you're probably nodding, saying: "yes, that's my cat" - and that's good enough reason alone to get your cat insured. You see, when she decides to have these moments, she might just injure herself, and with injury comes huge vet bills.
2. The Dangerous Outdoors
As we all know the outside world can be full of dangers, especially for cats. The most common hazards include: trees, cars, roof tops, other animals (i.e dogs) and let's not forget people that dislike cats. It's not that we're trying to scaremonger or suggest you should now go and wrap your cat up in cotton wool; it's just that cats are mischievous and like to get themselves into sticky situations where accidents can happen.
3. Nasty Parasites
Most responsible cat owners de-flea and de-worm their cat, but sometimes there could be a nasty parasite that is immune to worming treatments, e.g the heart worm. The heart worm is a particularly stubborn beast, which cannot be prevented by conventional catch-all worming treatments, and left untreated can lead to your cat becoming very sick. So even if you think your cat is protected against malevolent parasites, there are some that escape even the most responsible of pet owners attention, and medical intervention may be required.
4. Illnesses
Everyone who owns a cat doesn't want to think about their pet becoming unwell, but just like humans they can develop diseases and get ill. There are a lot of diseases and infections that are preventable through inoculations first administered when they are kittens, and booster shots every year from then on. However, some ailments can be inevitable, and no vaccination is going to prevent them: i.e food intolerance, hairballs, urinary tract infections and many more. A lot of these can lead to very expensive vet bills.
5. Missing Cat
it's the worst that could happen, and completely unimaginable but sometimes it does; a beloved pet does go missing. Most cat insurers cover the cost of looking for your cat including posters, advertisements and other financial in tracking your cat down. None of this will be any consolation compared to your cat being at home safe and well, but some insurers give a lump sum of money if your cat doesn't return home or they are deceased.
These are just the top five reasons to get your cat insured; there are many more. Also, insurance will give you peace of mind and reassurance, to sit back and enjoy life with your cat without the worry.
