Living With Food Allergies and Sensitivities

Tree Allergies

Imagine being unable to eat anything at work, school, amusement parks, or restaurants. Imagine attending a birthday party, and having no choice but to pass on the pizza, the cake and ice cream, and even the drinks.

Tree Allergies

This is life for Joel Harshman, age 6, and his sister Rebecca Harshman, age 5. They have food allergies and sensitivities, and they can have only allergen-free foods made from scratch. Anything that their parents do not know for certain to be safe is off-limits. They don't have the luxury of enjoying food in social situations, and they can't take for granted that they will be able to eat anywhere except in their own home. They have to research every food and personal care item before they buy it, not just once, but every time.

Tree Allergies

More than 12 million Americans have food allergies, and most of those people are aware of their allergies. Millions more have food sensitivities, and most of them are not aware of it. Patrick Holford, co-author of Hidden Food Allergies, says, "I would estimate that one in three people suffers [from a food sensitivity]." For some people who are allergic or sensitive, avoiding the dangerous food is not difficult and they rarely think about it. For others, food allergies and sensitivities define, dominate and dictate their lives.

Tree Allergies

Allergic responses are usually noticeable, though not always. Food sensitivities, conversely, can go undetected for a lifetime. The most dangerous and most common food sensitivity is that to gluten and/or casein, proteins found in grains (wheat, rye, barley, and triticale) and milk (all dairy products) and their derivatives. Untreated gluten sensitivity can lead to serious conditions, including Celiac's Disease and bowel cancers. The list of symptoms connected to food sensitivity is too long to list here, but some of the common ones are headaches, problems with memory or concentration, food cravings, difficulty losing weight, digestive or bowel problems, and irritability or mood swings.

If you suspect you may have a food allergy or sensitivity, discuss it with your doctor. Treatment involves simply avoiding the offending food(s). For people with gluten and casein sensitivity, this means looking for "Gluten Free" and "Casein Free" on labels, and avoiding wheat, rye, barley, triticale, all dairy products and all of their derivatives. More than 200 terms are used for these ingredients on food labels. For a list of the terms commonly used on labels that mean wheat and dairy, see [http://www.foodandillness.com]

Food manufacturers are now listing the top eight allergens on labels, which makes it much easier to avoid dangerous ingredients. The Food Allergy and Anaphylactic Network lists the top eight food allergens as wheat, milk, egg, fish, shellfish, peanuts and tree nuts; these eight allergens cause more than 90% of all food allergies.

Following a special diet for food allergies and sensitivities isn't always a lifetime endeavor. Many people find that after a time, they are able to reintroduce those foods under their doctor's supervision. Joel and Rebecca are still holding onto their hope for a normal life.

The Most Common Toddler Allergies

Tree Allergies

It is very common to come across people who are allergic to some or the other substance and according to various studies about 50 million people in the US suffer from some or the other form of allergy. A lot of studies have been conducted by pediatricians and allergists about toddler allergies and the results of such studies have proved that a toddler has about 50 percent chances of being allergic to various substances if one parent has an allergy although the chances of the toddler carrying the same allergy are rare. Some studies have also pointed out that if both parents are allergic to substances then there are 75 percent chances that the toddler would also be allergic to some or the other substance. The most common of all the allergies reported for toddlers are the milk allergy and food allergy although there are many toddlers who are allergic to dust, mites, cockroaches and pollen too. It is important that you observe your child closely for any signs of allergies and if you see anything which is not normal then please see pediatrician as soon as possible.

Tree Allergies

Toddler allergies can be put into various groups based on the causes for allergies, allergy to milk, eggs, nuts (peanuts and tree nuts), fish and cereals (especially wheat) are the most common. The possible symptoms of these allergies are appearance of rashes or boils on the skin, vomiting, diarrhea and wheezing are the most common and visible symptoms which can be seen if the child is allergic to milk. Cow milk is believed to be the primary cause for milk allergies however it is not uncommon to come across toddlers who are allergic even to the soy milk or milk obtained from other animals like goats, sheep or buffaloes. The symptoms of milk allergy can be seen in toddlers within minutes or a couple of hours from the time of consumption of milk and it is highly advisable that you rush your kid to hospital or call the emergency number for help if the child is feeling breathlessness. Many toddlers are allergic to eggs, fish, peanuts, tree nuts and wheat protein and the only way of dealing with such allergies is by strictly avoiding the food item the kid is allergic to.

Tree Allergies

The occurrence of toddler allergies caused due to dust, mites, cockroaches and pollens is also very common and the possible symptoms are sneezing, running nose and itching. The best way to deal with such allergies is by keeping the environs of your home clean. Many parents get confused between food allergies and food intolerance and it is advisable that you visit a doctor and get a thorough check done by a pediatrician or allergist before you form any opinion about it. Many toddlers grow out of certain allergies and intolerance for a particular food item with age and might become receptive to the food by the time they are about 8-10 years old. There is no medication for allergies and the only way to deal with such situation is complete avoidance of the substance. The only medication available is for hay fever which can be tackled by giving shots to the toddler. If your child spends time with caretakers or babysitters then it is advisable that you keep the informed about the allergies and give them clear instructions about the food the kid is allergic to, the symptoms and the action that needs to be taken if the kid eats the food he or she is allergic to. This would help in keeping the child safe and healthy.

Tree Allergies

Food allergy

This type of allergy is an adverse immune response to the protein content in food items. Although, protein is healthy but sometimes the body mistakenly considers it as harmful. As a result, it remains undigested and the immune system triggers an allergic reaction. Many food items can trigger a reaction. Listed below are some of the common items.

Peanuts/ Brazil nut/ Sulfite allergy

Tree nuts - Walnut/ cashew nut/ chestnut/ hazelnut

Eggs/fish/shellfish/ crayfish/lobster

Rice/ Soybean/ Oats

Apple/Avocado/ Apricot/ Olive

Castor bean/ Sesame/ potato

The symptoms of food allergies include itching, sneezing, runny nose, wheezing, sinus, headache, vomiting, abdominal pain, trouble with breathing and swallowing and so on. Immune disorder is the major cause of this condition. A poor immune system doesn't allow the body to fight back and defend against various microbes and pollutants. The immune system is more susceptible to infection and has low resistance. Sometimes, a reaction may be triggered by exercise too. The similar food items may not cause an allergy when you don't exercise but it can trigger a reaction when you exercise and consume the food.

Allergies should be dealt under the guidance of a physician or specialist. Avoiding the triggers is an ideal way of keeping them at bay.

The Truth About Allergies

Grass Allergies

If someone says he has allergies, you might talk about a million different subjects allergies are a reaction to many different subjects allergic or irritant may be connected to something seasonal .. Mold, dust, food, and can be chronic or temporary. Very often when people say they have allergies, are related to different seasonal themes. Actually there are three types of seasonal>allergies.

Grass Allergies

• Springtime Allergies: These issues are most often connected to pollen and the plants that are in bloom during this time of the year. Most often springtime allergies are an issue between January and April. The most common springtime allergies are from oak, olive, ash, elm, poplar, and walnut trees.

Grass Allergies

• Summertime Allergies: These issues are most often connected to grass and grass pollen. In fact grass pollen can be an issue for some people throughout the entire year. People who have grass sensitivities will often have an allergic reaction after the grass have been mowed.

Grass Allergies

• Falltime Allergies: These issues are most often connected to weeds and weed pollen. The time of year people will experience these allergies is late summer and early fall. The plants that cause the most problems are pig weed, ragweed, and tumbleweed. Ragweed is the most common of all allergies, it has been reported that 75 percent of all Americans are allergic to ragweed.

Another serious allergy that has been getting a lot of hype recently is mold allergies. There are actually very few people who have mold allergies that recent media reporting would leave us to believe. There are literally thousands of mold constantly in our environments and only a dozen or so of them can cause issues for people. Even then, not all people will experience an allergic reaction to them.

The best form of prevention of allergy symptoms of to avoid what causes the allergic response. This means staying indoors as much as possible when you are experience seasonal allergy issues. If you have children it is important to allow them to be out in the elements as much as possible when they are younger. This way their body learns to deal with the allergens and will not react harshly when they are in their environment. If avoiding the outdoor is not possible there are many allergy drugs that can help to suppress the symptoms of an allergy attack, but they cannot stop the reaction.

If mold is your issue this is a harder allergy to avoid as mold is everywhere in the environment. Mold allergies require serious diligence in keeping the home clean and dry. This can be a huge undertaking. Often people who have mold issues will also have asthma and often the only real treatment for mold allergies is to treat the asthma.

So what?

Tree Allergies

Mangosteen Fruit

Tree Allergies

Mangosteen is the fruit of a slow-growing ultra-tropical tree. It 'was grown and usedAsia for centuries, but it is not easy to grow in the Western world. If the tree is about 10 years, began to purple berries. The result is what is the buzz.

Tree Allergies

The fruit consists of two parts: a shell often a soft purple and white fruit inside. The interior is the fruit prized for its delicate flavor known, and is called the "queen of fruits". And 'the body that has the health benefits, however.

It 'important, not the hull realmangosteen don't taste anywhere near as good as the outside flesh so don't be shocked when you bite into the middle, because I told you so! It's usually a more bitter taste and you'll find that the center is where the purple juice is stored. Mangosteens are known fro having high density stores of xanthones.

Xanthones

Xanthones are nutrients that are powerful antioxidants. Antioxidants repair cell damage and improve cell function. Xanthones work on all of our body systems. They are good for brain function, heart and lung function, immune system function, muscle and joint function and digestive function. They have powerful health effects because they work at the cellular level, and they work in all of our cells.

Benefits of Mangosteen Xanthones

Most of the talk about mangosteen has been directed towards its ability to improve different areas of health. There has been a great deal of research done on mangosteen and so far every result has been promising the say the least. Individual anecdotal reports show that this fruit has real and powerful health benefits.

One of the benefits that mangosteen is said to contribute towards is the reduction of hives on people who have strong allergies. Many people who have tried fruit will tell you that their allergies have become less and less frequent ever since they started eating mangosteen. Another benefit that that researchers still aren't 100% sure about is mangosteen's potential to reduce the likelihood of people getting cancer. This information is only speculation, however many lifetime consumers of mangosteen will tell you otherwise and in fact support the argument that mangosteen does reduce the likelihood of getting cancer later in life.

One other supposed benefit is mangosteen's potential to improve respiritory infections such as asthma. This is probably one of the biggest reasons why people in the Western world have become so fanatical about Mangosteen.

Finally the last benefit that mangosteen is contributed for is its ability to improve skin strenth. You can actually get mangosteen oitment which is reasonably cheap compared to the fruit that health to heal skin marks and sores. Hives being one example.

It's important to understand that these claims haven't been proven yet; the research is still preliminary. This fruit may or may not be the cure for the common cold and cancer. However, because it definitely has the health benefits of high concentrations of antioxidants, it could make you feel better and healthier.

Pugs and Allergies

Grass Allergies

Although the Pug tends to be a relatively healthy breed, it does tend to suffer from certain specific allergies.

Grass Allergies

The main causes of allergies in Pugs are:

Grass Allergies

• The environment

• Food

Grass Allergies

Environmental allergies could be caused by dust mites, fleas, trees, grass and pollens.

While food is known to cause allergies in Pugs, there are no specific foods that can be identified. This is something that you will learn to pick up through trial and error.

If you think that your Pug is suffering from an allergy, either an environmental allergy or a food allergy, then it could have a skin rash and some inflammation or redness to its skin. There could be some loss of hair or the dog could be very itchy. If your Pug is scratching excessively in a specific area or breaks out in pimples this could also be a sign that it is suffering from an allergy.

Hot spots are also very common in Pugs. Pugs have a double coat and this can get hot and wet close to their skin, which often causes itchiness, redness, inflammation and loss of hair.

Other indications that your Pug is suffering from allergies could be sneezing, coughing or even wheezing.

You may want to try changing your Pug's food to a hypoallergenic food. For red and inflamed skin, it may mean that your Pug is not getting enough oil in its diet. Try giving it some fish oil, this may help. Another treatment you could try for sore, itchy skin, is to bathe your Pug with vegetable glycerin soap, instead of using the more commonly used dog shampoos. One thing not to use when treating skin irritations is a shampoo that contains alcohol. Shampoos that have oatmeal in them are believed to be soothing too.

If you suspect your Pug is suffering from a food allergy, the best way to deal with this is to cut out everything you are feeding and start from scratch. Unless you are feeding one good quality dog food, introduce new foods, one at a time, and only once a week. This way you will see if your Pug has a reaction.

Taking your Pug to the vet is ultimately the best solution to treating it correctly. Treatment is generally symptomatic and will probably include giving your Pug antihistamines, steroids, fatty acid supplements, medicated shampoos or changing the dog's diet.

Eliminate Your Allergies Naturally

Tree Allergies

Millions of dollars are spent each year fighting allergies. Doctors' office visits, over-the-counter remedies, prescription drugs, painful injections, and lost time-off from work are all affecting millions of people each year. But there may be a simple curre to eliminating allergies that cost nothing! Yes, the cure may be free!

Tree Allergies

In July 1994, Dr. Nathaniel Mead, M.D. wrote in Natural Health:

Tree Allergies

"At least 50% of all children in the United States are allergic to cow's milk, many

undiagnosed. Dairy products are the leading cause of food allergy...Many cases of

asthma and sinus infections are reported to be relieved and even eliminated by

cutting out dairy."

Tree Allergies

A simple cure to eliminate allergies is to simply eliminate all dairy! This includes the

obvious milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, and cream, but also includes one of the

toughest dairy habits to break: ice cream! One dairy product that you have to be

diligent to eliminate would be casein. Casein is the predominant phosphoprotein

found in fresh milk. In addition to being consumed in milk, casein is used in the

manufacture of adhesives, binders, protective coatings, plastics (such as for knife

handles and knitting needles), fabrics, food additives and many other products. It's

not wonder that this protein can cause havoc in our bodies! It is not only used as a

thickener in other foods, it is also used to make adhesives and plastics. Just think

what those milk proteins are doing in our bodies.

And Dr. Mead is not alone in the belief that dairy products are the root cause of
allergies in people. Dr. Julie Klotter, MD wrote in the Townsend Medical Letter in

May 1995:

"In reality, cow's milk, especially processed cow's milk, has been linked to a variety

of health problems, including: mucous production...and allergies."

And lastly, the Israel Journal of Medical Sciences 1983; 19(9):806-809 reports:

"Dairy products may play a major role in the development of allergies, asthma, sleep

difficulties, and migraine headaches."

So this Spring, when the grasses and trees all start to bloom, instead of reaching for

those antihistamines, decongestants, and other more-powerful and dangerous

drugs, try this simple cure: eliminate all dairy for 30 days. Thirty days may seem like

an eternity when it comes to the magnetic draw of cheese or ice cream, but imagine

thirty days of clear breathing, restful sleep, and higher energy levels.

Pollen Allergy

Grass Allergies

During the spring, summer, and fall, there are a lot of things in the air that will make you have allergy attacks and hay fever. These particles that you may have issues with are released from the trees, weeds, and the many grasses. You will want to make sure that you think about the pollen allergies that you have and the current air condition. Before you go out, every day, you should check the pollen levels on the various weather stations and sites and then think about how you should prepare for the day.

Grass Allergies

You may find that you will prepare for the day by simply just taking your allergy medication in the morning. Remember, the pollens are the worst in the morning and at night. You really only have to think about how you are going to get through the few hours in the morning and at night. The pollen allergies that you have will depend on the environment and what you find in your surrounding.

Grass Allergies

A lot of people are allergic to grass pollens. Grass pollens are the worst because you may have many neighbors and such that will cut grass and not on the same day. You may have hay fever for weeks at a time because of the various people cutting their grass. However, you have to think about not only the grass, but also the flowers and the trees.

Grass Allergies

The trees will give off their pollens in both the spring and summer. You will want to keep in mind that there are trees around you like oak and such that will let off their pollens and you may need to take some meds in the morning and night. Some people will also find that there other seasonal allergic triggers that will bring on a full attack.

You will find that there are many sensitivities that you will have all year around. You will want to consult your doctor about the allergies that you may have and get tested. Once you get tested, you will want to think about what it is that you will be able to avoid and keep hay fever at bay. However, the testing will make you have reactions and it can be very uncomfortable, so you may want to bring some conclusions as to what you may be allergic too. You may end up having to test for several things so that you can avoid your allergies.

The Proper Lawn Care Tips For Springtime

Grass Allergies

If you are looking to create a lawn which is bouncy and healthy all year long, then you will need to know exactly how to care for it throughout the seasons. Springtime is no exception and if you do not learn to look after your lawn in spring, you could end up with a dull looking lawn for the rest of the year.

Grass Allergies

Here you will find some of the best spring lawn care tips. By following them you will ensure that you have the best possible results for you all year round.

Grass Allergies

How to Take Care of Your Lawn in Spring

Grass Allergies

The good news about spring time lawn care is that it is not half as difficult as summer lawn care. The main job that you will have to do, is raking the lawn.

The main benefit of raking your lawn is that it keeps it looking its best. You can remove leaves as well as control thatch and if you have thatch of up to one and a half inches, it should be raked away. Another advantage of raking in spring is that it removes any dead grass which is left over from winter. As you will already know, winter can be an extremely harsh time for our lawns and so there is bound to be some excess dead grass left over.

If you happen to have a lawn which suffers a lot of foot traffic, then aeration is something that you will also need to do. All of that foot traffic causes the grass to compact and aeration helps to de-compact it where it's needed to bring back the bounce in the lawn. If your grass is not overly compacted then it would actually be better to aerate it in the fall. It is only if the grass is severely compacted that it should be done in the summer months.

One problem that can also come with too much foot traffic is bald patches on the lawn. For this problem you will need to plant new grass seeds wherever it is needed. The problem is commonly known as "Overseeding Lawns" and when you choose to overseed, you should ideally use a slow release fertilizer. Once the grass seeds have germinated you should then apply a quick release nitrogen fertilizer. You may actually find overseeding is easier to do in the fall also, so if you know that your lawn suffers from bald patches and lots of foot traffic, it may well be worth doing this every fall.

Overall those are the best spring care tips and you should never forget to fertilize the lawn either in spring. That is perhaps the most important aspect of spring time lawn care and it should never be forgotten.

Pollen Allergies - Will an Air Purifier Help?

Grass Allergies

The Misery Of Allergies

Grass Allergies

As a young boy I was one of the kids who had to stay indoors to avoid the misery that came with sneezing, sniffling and asthma which came from pollen, grass and leaves. Weekly shots at the allergist and medications were a weekly routine. And even though I was only age 11 (1969) I began to experiment with air purifiers and air cleaners of all kinds. When you can't breathe you'll do anything for relief.

Grass Allergies

Here are the primary types of air purification, with a quick rundown on their effectiveness for pollen allergies.

Grass Allergies

Ionizers

My first was an air ionizer, negative ion generator to be more precise. Good for some forms of mildew, pollution, and odor, but not very good for pollen or dust since there is nothing to collect the pollen in the air. RATING FOR ALLERGIES: POOR

Ozone Machines

Ozone generators were my next experiment. Good for odor, mold, and mildew, but again not good for gathering pollen and dust. Too much ozone will irritate the lungs, especially in asthmatics. Ozone machines did little for allergies. Today's primary Ozone brand is Ecoquest (formerly Alpine). RATING FOR ALLERGIES: POOR

Electrostatic Plates or "Truman Cells"

My next was an electrostatic machine with positive and negatively charged plates. Oreck calls it a "Truman Cell" ( for Harry Truman during WWII is all we can figure) but they're all over the market and often called "ionic" or "electrostatic". Good for pollution since carbon from car exhaust is charged, and they're washeable. Since most pollen and dust carries little charge however they are not effective for pollen or dust RATING FOR ALLERGIES: POOR

Carbon and/or Zeolite

These type of air purifiers are primarily for smoke, chemicals, odors and fumes since these organic minerals absorb and trap gases. But they do not trap dust and pollen. RATING FOR ALLERGIES: POOR

HEPA

HEPA is the first choice for pollen allergies because it traps and holds pollen and dust. Doctors and Allergists recommend it most. The downside is you have to replace it every year or so. So make sure you find affordable replacement filters as some companies can soak you after you own their Hepa air purifier. I would avoid the expensive (0-800) air purifiers like IQAIR and Austin Air which are primarily HEPA. They're just too over-priced for a HEPA filter, and even though they are well made you can find a comparable ones for under 0. RATING FOR ALLERGIES: EXCELLENT

WAIT BEFORE YOU BUY A HEPA AIR PURIFIER

So while HEPA is the primary method of air purification for pollen allergies and asthma today you can find affordable air purifiers that use multiple technologies including HEPA. The reason you want more than HEPA is that pollution, mold, mildew and other contaminants (besides pollen and dust) all burden your immune system and can make pollen allergies worse. Little-known brands like AliveAir and Airpodcleaner use a large HEPA filter plus 8 other technologies including Electrostatic, Carbon, UV (to kill mold and mildew) protecting your body and making cleaner, purer air. Some of these models also use advanced pollen and dust sensors which detect pollen and dust levels and adjust the purification accordingly.

The Link Between Snoring And Allergies Revealed

Tree Allergies

The noise that we all associate with snoring is a results of trying to force air through block or partially blocked airways. While it isn't an illness in itself, snoring is often a symptom of other conditions one of which could be an allergic reaction.

Tree Allergies

Allergic rhinitis is a condition where the membrane lining the throat and nose becomes inflamed. It's often set off by an allergic reaction to something that is inhaled. You've probably heard of seasonal allergic rhinitis - it's more commonly known as hayfever.

Tree Allergies

When the lining becomes inflamed, it causes the airway to be blocked which can lead to snoring.

Tree Allergies

Hayfever is usually caused by trees, grass or other plant pollen and it's usually a problem in the spring and summer. If you suffer from it all year (known as perennial allergic rhinitis) it's often due to dust, dust mites, mould spores or pet fur.

The symptoms of allergic rhinitis are familiar to most people:

- itchy eyes and nose

- sneezing

- red, watery eyes

- runny or plugged nose

- headache

- and of course, snoring

If you haven't been able to figure out what's causing your hayfever, your doctor may give you a skin-prick test to determine exactly what is causing it. Even then, the cause is not always easy to determine so you may not be able to get rid of the cause.

In these cases, you'll probably turn to some type of allergy medication. The problem with these medications, as it related to snoring, is that many of them contain antihistamines.

Antihistamines are often effective at treating allergies, but they're also a depressant. As such, they can lead to the muscles in your throat and neck becoming more relaxed than normal while you sleep. When these muscles relax, it can lead to more severe snoring than normal.

If you're suffering from allergies and are snoring at night, it's best to avoid antihistamines before going to bed. If you need to use any medication, try to stick to a nasal decongestant, which can help your breathing while not contributing further to a snoring problem.

As with any health concerns, if you suspect you suffer from allergies or have a snoring problem you should always consult with a health care professional to get their informed opinion.

Miraculous Natural Remedies For Seasonal Allergies

Grass Allergies

The flowers are blooming, the trees are budding, and seasonal allergies are beginning. The first round comes for those who are blessed with an allergy to tree pollens. Those who are have grass allergies are not far behind. From the viewpoint that guides the thinking of natural healing, the pollen is not the problem as much as the body's inability to handle the pollen. This explains why some people suffer with allergies and others do not.

Grass Allergies

The ideal time to start strengthening the body and getting it ready for allergy season is in the fall. This article is for all those allergy sufferers who either did not know this or who procrastinated and are now dealing with itchy and watery eyes, sneezing, congestion, runny nose, headaches and all the other symptoms of seasonal allergies.

Grass Allergies

Without getting into scientific detail, the body produces histamines as a reaction to allergens. The histamines cause many of the allergic reactions that make life so uncomfortable. The Western way of thinking is to stop the body from creating histamines - stopping the allergic reaction. Unfortunately, antihistamines have many side effects. These include but are not limited to: drowsiness, headaches, difficulty in passing urine, dry mouth, blurred vision, feeling sick or vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, palpitations and abnormal heart rhythms.

Grass Allergies

Other side effects include high blood pressure, dizziness, confusion, depression, disturbed sleep, tremors, convulsions, blood and liver disorders, and over-excitement in children. Antihistamines can also cause irritation from creams, lotions and eye drops, as well as allergic reactions, such as swelling, rash and breathing difficulties.

First Remedy:

For those that do not like to take antihistamines there is another option. There is a product made by standard process called Antronex®. Instead of working to block the production of histamines, this product gets the liver to process the histamines out of the system. I do not know of any side effects associated with the product and my experience with it has been nothing short of miraculous. I will take anywhere from one to three pills when symptoms begin, and usually within five to 10 minutes the allergy symptoms are relieved.

Second Remedy:

As we breathe, the pollens in the air get trapped in our mucous membranes. Simply cleaning off the mucous membranes one to three times a day can provide great relief from allergy symptoms. Perhaps the easiest and most cost effective way to do this is with a device known as a Neti pot. This device looks like a small teapot and is filled with a saltwater solution. The spout of the pot is put in one nostril, and the water is allowed to run through the nasal passages and out the opposite nostril. I recommend a morning and nighttime rinse, and if symptoms are bad, one or two rinses during the day.

Third Remedy:

It cannot be stressed enough how important proper hydration is for allergy sufferers. When the mucus membranes become dehydrated they are much more likely to become irritated. The typical rule of thumb is to take your body weight, divided by two, and use that as the number of ounces of water you should drink in a day. For example, 150 pounds divided by two is 75 - the appropriate number of ounces of water you should consume. Another way to determine if you're getting enough water is to check that your urine is clear and does not have a foul odor.

The solutions discussed are great for symptomatic relief. To address the underlying causes of allergies, I recommend meeting with an acupuncturist or naturopath who has studied the subject.

Definitely do use both oral and topical steroids when you need them. However, I found that if I wasn't also practising some self care, my condition would yo-yo from looking like it was clearing one day to flaring up twice as bad the next day. Self care includes caring for my skin from the outside as well as caring for my body from within.

I found improving my diet helped. I use the blood group diet. The great thing about the blood group diet is that you can learn the types of foods that your body needs more of and the types to avoid. I am AB+ and I am told this is a great blood group to have. However, I have found that I need to avoid red foods. Diets can be daunting, especially with a family. So, I changed first just one meal. I started with breakfast and through that change I had changed 1/3 of my diet. That is enough sometimes to tip the balance back toward good health.

Grass Allergies

I also found that live green raw food is great for the skin. For a while I grew and prepared fresh wheat grass juice. It worked for me. I did not try to powdered type. However, wheat grass juice is a fairly labour intensive product so now I mix in live green sprouts raw. Raw green sprouts are fairly widely available in the supermarkets now - just watch the used-by-dates on the packaging, the shelf life is not very long.

5 Most Common Indoor Pollutants (That Everybody Has)

Grass Allergies

When mankind moved indoors a lot of things got better - shelter from the elements, and more control of temperature. However, many things from out the great outdoors have followed us indoors. And as we insulate our homes in an attempt to be more in control, our indoor air quality has gotten more out of control. Let's take a look at 5 of the most common pollutants that everybody has in their homes, and an effective way to get them out.

Grass Allergies

1. Household dust is unavoidable. It originates from lint on clothing, upholstered furniture and draperies, from fine particles of dirt and sand that blow in from outside, and can even contain small pieces of metal that comes from the hinges on your doors!

Grass Allergies

2. Dust mites feed on dead skin which all warm blooded creatures shed. Their favorite spot in your home is your bed, making your bedroom air thick with them as you go about your daily routines of shaking the covers to make the bed, or having your 6 year old run and jump on the bed in the morning to give you a hug. The protein in their feces is a well known allergen for many, and they are a formidable adversary because they are so prolific.

Grass Allergies

3. Mold and mildew spores are part of nature. They are everywhere and enter airborne through doors as we come and go from our homes. Even though they can't be seen with the naked eye, if you are allergic to them, your nose knows they are there. And they can cause quite a bit of damage in your home when they find a water source (basements, bathrooms, under the sink in the kitchen) where they can multiply, grow, and destroy.

And speaking of 6 year olds, it has been shown that children who are exposed to large numbers of dust mites are more likely to develop asthma than those who are not.

4. Pollen is nature's way of renewing life. And pollination is always happening somewhere. And because pollen is so easily airborne, it can travel for hundreds and hundreds of miles and can easily be blown into your home on dry windy days.

5. Pet dander is dead skin from any warm blooded animal and is produced by cats, dogs, birds, ferrets, bunnies and other the other cute, cuddly, furry creatures you came name in the pet shop. You might be thinking "I don't have pets", but you don't necessarily have to have a pet to have dander.

If you've ridden in a car that has a pet, or work with someone who has a pet, or even have a friend that visits your home frequently who owns a pet, more than likely you have dander in your home by association.

Dander sticks to clothing, hair, packages, walls, furniture. Studies have been done that have found dander in homes in offices where pets have never lived. And of course if you do have a warm blooded pet, you have a walking or flying dander maker living with you 24 hours every day.

So what's the point of all of this? These 5 common pollutants are a natural part of life. What is unnatural is the high percentage that remains in the air in our homes because they are so well insulated. These pollutants literally have no way out unless you filter your air.

A high efficiency particle arresting (abbreviated as HEPA) air purifier is designed to remove household dust, dust mites, mold and mildew spores, pollen and pet dander down to .3 microns. It does this with 99.97% efficiency, meaning for every 10,000 airborne pollutants, it will remove 99,997 of these all too common indoor pollutants.

Pollen Allergies? These Tips Can Help!

Tree Allergies

Allergy to pollen is pollen from trees, which can not be carried away by wind or insects are the cause. If this pollen in the air in the country of a person's eyes, nose, lungs, skin, etc., some people react with allergy due to the sensitivity of their bodies. It can lead to less severe symptoms such as eye irritation, sneezing, coughing, etc., to more severe symptoms such as allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma and allergic conjunctivitis.

Tree Allergies

There are five great tipswhich can be followed by people with allergies.

Tree Allergies

The consumption of honey in the first region is significantly decreased the effective elimination or even an allergy to pollen. It can be proved that honey contains pollen from natural products, which serve to act as a vaccine, helping the victim to build immunity to the pollen. We recommend you take a spoon of honey twice a day for a few months before the start of allergiesSeason.

Tree Allergies

Secondly, to determine the exact cause of allergies, allergy shot will serve better. Otherwise, a skin test or blood test can be done to identify the allergens that cause symptoms. These allergens can then be administered in small amounts over a longer period. Finally, the reaction is less powerful.

Third allergies can also take measures to minimize exposure to pollen by staying inside more often than not, close all doors andwindows especially while travelling, drying the laundry in a machine rather than outside, dusting house and bed completely, avoiding peak pollen timings or even areas, vacating to a less pollen location like beach, sea, etc.

4. In addition to the above, medication must not be neglected in order to lower the symptoms. There are many prescription as well as over-the-counter medications. However, it is recommended to consume drugs after consulting a pharmacist. It is good to stock the medications well before, since there may be a shortage during the season, owing to its high prevalence among people.

5. Acupuncture or chiropractic therapy can be tried by choosing a good practitioner, well experienced with allergy and sensitivity elimination and reprogramming technique. This has proved to be very effective in many people, within a short time. Besides, even without medications and harmful side effects, people have experienced good improvements and have seen their symptoms disappear.

Pollen allergy is very common, but sufferers can easily alleviate the symptoms or even get rid of them.

Cat Allergies - A Deeper Look At The Cause And A Promise For Permanent Relief

Grass Allergies

Having helped quite a number of people be free from their cat allergies using TAT, (Tapas Acupressure Technique) I have made some really interesting observations. My philosophy is based on the more and more accepted theory that the allergy problem lies within the body's energy system, and the cause is a disharmony between the body's energy and that of the allergen. It is this disharmony that causes a disruption, or blockage in the energy system which is what sets off the cascade of an inappropriate immune response which result in the allergy symptoms. The object then is to retrain, or balance the energy system so it is in harmony with the cat allergen. Once that happens, the allergy symptoms go away completely.

Grass Allergies

This is a workable theory, as it can be observed time and time again using effective modern techniques. (TAT is only one of several-but probably one of the fastest and most effective.) But then, what is it that causes the energy system to become unbalanced in the presence of the allergen? Is there any connection at all with the mind? Anyone interested in the mind-body connection have read stories of how someone got the phone call that their mother had died as they are watching a bouquet of yellow roses. Ever since that incident that person was allergic to yellow roses. (Not red ones, or pink ones-only the yellow ones...) The person was even allergic to yellow plastic roses... Or the case when someone was in a rollover accident, pinned under the car in the grass, gasoline fumes wafting, and after that they get violently ill when around rag weed? Or the verified cases when someone who is a multiple personality has one personality that has an allergy, and the other is not... (They are in the same body, but they have different memories...different memories causing different chemistry.)

Grass Allergies

So, then, what can be an emotional cause for someone to be allergic to cats? Well, the causes can vary quite a bit, but in my experience, a frequent reason for someone's allergy has to do with the bad rap cats have had for hundreds of years. I'd like to mention here, that it makes no difference if you like or love cats. The bad rap is pervasive. Let me explain... Your mind is like a computer. Some of the data you get is like those temporary internet files- easy to delete. Then some data gets saved onto your hard drive... Data that came to you from authority figures when you were a child, or data that came when you were in a state of acute stress or fear. That kind of data was accepted without you having a chance to decide whether you wanted it or not, or whether it was true or not. But, let's get back to the cats... There are "Truths" about cats that resonate within our society. Let's see if you recognize any of them:

Grass Allergies

"Cats are sneaky".

"Cats attack without even being provoked".

"Cats are mean".

"Cats are stalkers".

"Weird people have cats". (as in the village "witch")

"Cats can steal a baby's breath..."

"Cats aren't safe around babies."

"The crazy cat lady"

"Black cat crossing in front of you means bad luck".

Add to that the FACT that in medieval times you could be burned on a stake for owning a cat. Even liking cats could get you killed. So, many of these things are silly, yes? But, for a child that was told these frightening things, it was not so silly, and could very well have been saved onto the "hard drive" Now, most of these things are completely on an unconscious level. But,,, these things get into your inner mind, and even though you don't believe them consciously, they are like a computer program. They will continue to run until you delete them. I see this all the time working with cat allergies. And I also see that when the issue, or misinformation gets resolved the allergy goes away, for the most part, permanently.

Let me share a story. (Details have been changed for anonymity ) Donna was severely allergic to cats. She would have reactions being around someone who had been in contact with a cat. One of her favorite pastimes was garage sales, and shopping in second hand stores. Invariably there would be some item that had been in contact with a cat, requiring Donna to always carry her meds and plenty of tissue on her shopping trips. Add to that, her grandson lived with 4 cats. When coming to her home he would have to undress in the garage, head straight for the shower and dress in the clothes that Donna provided for him. Donna sure had some serious reactions to cats... Gathering some info about Donna's allergy, she shared that it started when she was pregnant with her first son. Ever since then (34 years ago) she had had severe reactions around cats.

So we did the allergy eliminating session with TAT which at the conclusion includes a statement where you state how you would like to feel around cats. (Or how your body would like to feel) Donna stated "I want to be safe around cats" Now that took me by surprise, since I had already asked if she was afraid of cats, or had a dislike for cats. Or if she had had any incidents with cats. (Most people with cat allergies are not afraid of cats, on the contrary they like them) Then she said, almost with an embarrassed chuckle,

"Well you know that thing about cats stealing the baby's breath and all..." adding dismissively, "But that's just an old wives tale"

So, reading this, you may have light bulbs going off... Donna's allergy started when she was pregnant with her first child. She has, even though she rationally knows it is not true, had the belief implanted that

"Cats steal the baby's breath" Now, what better way for Donna to protect her baby from dying by a cat "stealing it's breath" than for her to get so seriously ill, a cat could never possibly come anywhere close to her baby? See, this is how the inner mind works... (Fascinating, no?) So, we did neutralize that belief using TAT and she had no allergic reactions whatsoever when around cats for a few months.

Then late one evening I get a call from Donna. "Heeeeeeelp!! I had a bad reaction to a cat yesterday."

I was curious to find out what had happened... Donna had visited a friend who had a newborn baby boy. As they are visiting the family's cat want to join in. As the cat gets closer to the baby, the baby's father says: 'Don't let the cat get to close to the baby, It is not safe" So that was the problem. We had not completely neutralized the (totally unconscious) fear Donna had about cats and babies. We did some more TAT addressing the baby issue, and she has not had one reaction since. Donna could have spent the rest of her life avoiding cats, avoiding people who have had contact with then, and taking medication when going out shopping. But, she only needed to clear a misconception she had gotten, probably at a very early age, in order to be completely allergy free, which she is today.

Learn to Avoid Foods That Trigger Lupus Flares - With an Easy, at Home Food Allergy Testing Strategy

Tree Allergies

A food allergy is an immune response to a particular food or beverage, similar to the immune response against the body itself in a lupus patient. Don't confuse food allergies with food intolerances; they are different. When you experience food intolerance, it is not caused by the immune system, and is simply an adverse response by your body to a particular food (like lactose intolerance).

Tree Allergies

You've got to take care of yourself; having lupus or any auto-immune disease makes you especially susceptible to food allergies and these allergic reactions can instigate flares.

Tree Allergies

There are many ways to determine food allergies and the symptoms they produce. According to the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network, you should watch for the following 7 symptoms up to two hours of eating.

Tree Allergies

Food allergy symptoms to watch out for:

o Tingling sensation in the mouth

o Swelling of the tongue and the throat

o Difficulty breathing

o Hives

o Vomiting, abdominal cramps, or diarrhea

o Sudden drop in blood pressure

o Loss of consciousness

If you suspect you have a food allergy, it is important to work with a health professional, because while simply cutting that food out of your diet may alleviate your symptoms, it won't address the potential allergy itself.

Allergy testing is easier than it sounds. You might be afraid of needles, but in most cases you don't even have to see them!

Common allergy testing methods:

Pin Prick allergy testing

In the pin prick skin test the doctor places a small drop of the substance (in this case food) that you may be allergic to on your skin and then pricks you with a tiny needle. He or she will then wait for a few minutes to see if you develop a reaction, which is usually localized in the form of redness and swelling.

RAST Allergy Test

The RAST test is another allergy test that requires a blood sample sent to a lab, where specialized tests are done to determine your allergies.

The At-Home Allergy Pulse Test

Another easy way to get an indication of a food allergy is by using the at-home allergy pulse test. This is done by checking your pulse rate before and after eating. When you maintain a close watch over your pulse rate while you challenge different foods, you can often determine possible food reactions. However, it is important that you do not use or rely on this test if you have a history of strong allergic reactions, especially anaphylaxis (a life-threatening allergic reason which results in swelling of the throat).

To perform the pulse test on yourself, simply take your pulse before eating a meal to establish your base (or control) pulse rate.

It's best to eat a single food, and then re-check your pulse rate at 15, 30 and 60 minutes afterwards. If you see an increase in elevation of more than 10 beats faster than your base pulse, it means you are likely allergic to that food.

An obvious problem is that you may want to eat more than one food at a time. Go ahead and eat that meal, and again do your pulse test before, and after your meal as above. In this way you'll be able to determine if the foods don't have any effect, or if there are foods creating a reaction with an elevated pulse rate.

To start testing your food reactions, a simple natural diet is the way to go. Stick with meals that don't require a lot of work and include just a few simple ingredients.

If you do find an increased pulse, it's a good idea to test each food separately in order to narrow down which food ingredient is the culprit from that meal.

Be sure to keep a diary with you at all times, so you can keep a proper record and learn to identify which foods, if any, are triggering a flare. Be cautioned though, food triggers and their reactions can change, therefore be tricky to catch. However, this test is a great start to taking control of unnecessary flares that result from food allergies.

It is best to work with an experienced wellness specialist to help you maintain your health program and get further support to answer your health questions when necessary.

90% of all food allergies are caused by only eight foods!

Yes, it's true. Only 8 common foods are the culprit for most food allergies. These are milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts (such as walnuts, cashews, and pistachios), fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat. You should also avoid spicy foods, processed foods (such as American cheese), alcohol, chocolate, and caffeine if you have Lupus. I know this sounds like no fun at all, but all of these have the potential to mess with your immune system and have unexpected effects on your body. That's the last thing you need to worry about with lupus!

One way to recall these foods is by remembering the term 'DONGS', which stands for:

Dairy: Cow's milk and related products, goats' milk and related products, eggs

Ocean: Fish, shellfish

Nuts: Peanuts, tree nuts

Grains: Soy, wheat, wheat, rye, oats, barley, anything referred to as "gluten"

Spices: Paprika, garlic, cinnamon, cloves, cola, liquorice, mustard, oregano, peppers, poppy seeds, and sage

Now that I've told you all the no-no's... we can go over some of the foods you can eat and enjoy without fear of stimulating your immune system. Foods like brown rice, sweet potatoes, and veggies can make up delicious dishes full of energy and carbs to keep you going through the day. For a refreshing drink, why not reach for some fresh fruits or veggies and make a nice juiced smoothie or drink that will support your immune system and energy as well (just avoid asparagus, eggplant, onion, zucchini, raw olives, and peppers).

It's important to keep your strength up so you can fight the lupus all day, not just after eating, so try and have several smaller meals throughout the day versus 2 or 3 heavy meals that will rob you of precious energy you don't have to waste.

Why Dogs Eat Grass

Grass Allergies

Dogs have been eating grass without any side effects for, well since dogs have been around. Our dog eats grass all the time, especially the new grass that comes up between the rocks in our rock garden. Some, not all, of our other dogs have eaten grass occasionally. Molly is a Labrador Retriever and Labs tend to eat everything. She has not had any side effects from it, thrown up a couple times but I'm not convinced it was from the grass. If she decides it's not in her best interests, she will stop eating it on her own.

Grass Allergies

Nobody knows why dogs eat grass. There are a few theories out there. First one to come to mind is that they eat grass because they have an upset stomach and want to make themselves vomit. Another one is that they are trying to supplement their diet with greens, like we do with a salad. Another is that dogs are omnivores as opposed to carnivores, meaning they will "eat anything".

Grass Allergies

We have a lot of dogs in our neighborhood, many Labs and Beagles as we are in a hunting region, and all the dogs eat grass like cows. They also do not get any side effects, like vomiting, so I don't believe dogs eat grass to make themselves throw up. If they do, it could be because the grass they ate irritated their stomach lining. Dogs are quite capable of making themselves throw up without the aid of grass.

Grass Allergies

As far as supplementing their diet, most high quality dog food contain the nutrients your dog needs daily. With the key phrase here "high quality". If you only fed your dog canned meat, this theory could be valid. Feeding only canned meat is not healthy for their teeth or bowels being too soft. And dogs do need additional vitamins and minerals that are not contained in meat. Your dog is more likely to develop dental problems or constipation from the lack of fiber if they are only fed a canned meat diet.

Fertilizers and pesticides are very toxic to dogs, so if your dog eats grass you need to really keep an eye on him when they are out in an area that has or may have been treated with chemicals. Especially tempting are the clumps of grass that drop from the lawnmower but they can have gasoline or grease mixed in with them so be alert for those. One of the first commands we teach our dogs is "drop it". It is a great command to be able to use, especially when they are off leash.

Some things you can try are giving them some vegetables in their diet. Carrots and apples are good. Do not give them grapes, raisins or onions though. Those are toxic to dogs.

Dogs don't actually need variety in their diet like we do. Being creatures of habit, they are happy to eat the same thing day after day as long as it tastes good. Eating grass is just one of those things they do that doesn't hurt them and seems to make them happy.

Maybe the reason why dogs eat grass is because it just plain tastes good.

Fun Is In The Air, And So Are The Allergies In The South-Southeast

Grass Allergies

While the Southern and Southeastern United States have definite seasons, they are not as clearly defined as the Northeast and Midwest. Yet, it's that time of year again when plants begin their cycle of new growth and cause runny noses and itchy eyes for more than 20% of the population. The pollen producing plants are sending their powder-like particles into the air to fertilize and create new plants.

Grass Allergies

For many people, it's the start of their inhalant allergies which are caused by airborne allergens. Sufferers, from the mild to serious, find their eyes, ears, nose, sinuses, throat, voice box, lungs and skins affected to varying degrees depending on the type of plant to which they react.

Grass Allergies

Symptoms can include: itchy, tearing, burning, swelling eyes; itching, pressure, muffled hearing, popping in the ears; itching, sneezing, congestion, postnasal drip; pain and/or pressure over the cheeks, forehead or between the eyes; scratchy, itchy, sore, dry, hoarse throat; coughing, shortness breath, burning sensation in the chest, wheezing; and rashes, dry skin. If you discover that you suddenly have begun to experience some of these symptoms, you may have a pollen-related inhalant allergy and depending on the severity of your symptoms, you may be able to control it on your own or you may need to visit a doctor. Either way you need to monitor the daily pollen count and track your reactions. This will help you to determine which seasonal plants may be causing your reactions.

Grass Allergies

Allergen Producing Plants

Here's a list of the most common pollen producing plants for Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas that can help you avoid the plants that affect you the most.

Trees

The nut-bearing trees of the South/Southwest -- Maple, Pecan and Walnut -- end their pollination by early June. Most of the other trees produce their pollen in March and April annually.

Grasses

Blue, Orchard, Red Top, Timothy, Italian Rye, Johnson, and Bermuda. Grass pollens are the major source of most pollen allergies because their season lasts from May through September (except for Bermuda which lasts through November), and are the most difficult avoid because of the large exposure of grassy areas. Florida also has three indigenous grasses that pollinate from April through October: St. Augustine, Natal and Bahia.

Weeds

With the exception of English Plantain and Yellow Dock weeds (seasonal April through July), most weeds indigenous to the south/southeast don't begin to bloom and cause allergic reactions until mid-summer through early autumn.

Controlling Your Environments to Avoid the Pollen

You can help to alleviate your reactions immediately and on your own by creating a "pollen-safe" zone within your home, work space and vehicles. You will need to reduce the level of the pollen in the air; control the relative humidity; and "rinse" the pollen agitators out of your nose, sinuses and tissues, and off of your skin.

In your home, make sure that your furnace filters are clean and you are using disposable filters with self-sealing edges that trap and hold allergens and dirty air to provide 100% filtration. Also, remember to change those filters every month. It's also a good idea to add air vent guards to your heating/air conditioning vents for extra air filtration. When you want to "air out" your house, use temporary window guards that include filters similar to vent guards to keep pollen particles from entering your home. Cleaning carpets and floors with a HEPA vacuum also keeps pollen and dust particles from being released back into the room. Also, using a HEPA air purifier helps to control pollen and other air-borne allergens that enter your home from open doors, clothing, groceries, etc.

You probably only have limited control over your work environment, but you can help reduce the pollen and allergens in the air by using a small HEPA air purifier in your work space, and carry a sinus rinse to reduce nasal irritation. When you're in your car, there are HEPA air vehicle purifiers you can use that not only help to control the allergens in your car, but also help to control the dust and dirt that accumulate inside. If you travel by plane, there are even portable plane air purifier filters available that fit on the overhead air nozzle above your seat.

If your symptoms are not severe, these simple steps perhaps in combination with some over-the-counter medications such as eye drops, antihistamines and decongestants may give you all the relief you need this spring. However, if your symptoms are severe and are leading to more serious conditions such as upper respiratory tract infections, corneal abrasions, skin infections, diminished hearing, you need to see a doctor in addition to controlling your environment.

No one wants to miss the fun and the fresh air, and there are a couple of quick things you can do so that you can enjoy the outdoors for limited amounts of time. There are comfortable face masks and wearable air purifiers that can help "clean" the external air and filter out the pollens. You also need to wear "breathable" clothing that covers most of your exposed skin, and you want to try to avoid venturing outside on windy days when the pollen is really blowing.

Steps for Successful Candida Treatment

Tree Allergies

As far as candida treatment, the over the counter stuff just won't cut it. You may want to get a prescription for diflucan than follow that with using natural antifungals such as Pau d'Arco, Yarrow, and marshmallow root. Taking Echinacea or other immune boosters is helpful, too.

Tree Allergies

Douching with tea tree oil is helpful, too. You can purchase pure tea tree oil at a health food store. Put 3 drops into water in the bag and use that solution. There are also tea tree oil depositories by "Tree of Life" product that are helpful too. Many candida sources also say that using whole garlic cloves inserted (of course with a string attached) is helpful.

Tree Allergies

The basic and most essential part of candida treatment is the diet, so here is list of general foods to avoid:
- Fruits (lemon, lime, and grapefruit are exceptions, and remember that tomato is fruit, too)
- Sugars of any kind
- Mushrooms
- Cheese and other dairy
- Fermented condiments (vinegar, olives, mayo, mustard pickled and anything, because it contains vinegar)

Tree Allergies

These steps greatly helped me. Also, get an allergy test, because Candida can prone you to food allergies/sensitivities and some of these allergies may be setting you off, too. I found that wheat products were flaring up the yeast infection. Now, that I am off the wheat and other allergic foods, and after the program I went through, I only seem to get the yeast problem when I eat something bad. It is now a good indicator of if I ate something bad, so I don't eat that again.

Remember to check with your trusted physician about all of this to make sure it is right for you, but many people have had success by doing these things for themselves.

Allergy Relief - How You Can Get Allergy Relief

Grass Allergies

If you suffer from severe allergy symptoms it is important that you find the allergy relief that you deserve. Most people who suffer from different allergies don't realize that millions of people around the country are also suffering. The most common symptoms of allergies include runny noses, coughing, sneezing, and congestion, watery and itchy eyes. Although these are common, there are many other symptoms that occur with allergies.

Grass Allergies

Probably one of the best ways to reduce your allergy outbreaks is to pay close attention to what triggers your allergy outbreaks. Do you get a rash every time you play with your kid in the yard? You probably suffer from grass allergies. By paying attention to what you are allergic to, you can help avoid these triggers.

Grass Allergies

Obviously some triggers are much harder to avoid are outside allergy problems. If you suffer from these outdoor symptoms you should try taking anti-histamine medication. These bills are very useful in treating different outbreaks because they can actually stop the outbreaks before they occur. Most anti-histamine medication can be found over the counter at your local drug store. They are usually reasonably priced so most people can afford them.

Grass Allergies

Another different treatment for allergy relief is regular vaccinations that can help prevent your allergies from occurring. People who suffer from a lot of different outside allergy triggers might consider this the best option to get immediate relief. It is also effective for people who aren't protected by anti-histamines. These can give you the relief that you are looking to get.

Allergies - Forms and Treatment

Tree Allergies

An estimated 50 million Americans are allergic to one or more things. The immune system produces antibodies in the body when the error harmless substance, or allergen as an invader. These antibodies are produced to defend the body against substances incorrectly identified as the culprit. The cells in the affected areas also produce histamine and other chemicals. The release of histamine may cause sneezing, rashes, itching and other allergic reactions. These allergic reactions usually appear in areas of the body where the allergen comes to.

Tree Allergies

Among the most common types of allergies are food allergies, allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma and allergic contact dermatitis. Each of these types has its own specific symptoms and probable form of treatment.

Tree Allergies

It is estimated that about 100 Americans are killed each year due to food allergies. Studies show that only 1 to 2 percent of all adults with allergies are suffering from true food allergies. The most common food allergens are milk, eggs, fish, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, almonds and cashew. It is estimated that about 3 million Americans are allergic to peanuts and tree nuts - the number one causes of food allergy deaths. People suffering from food allergies may experience swelling and tingling of the lips. There may be itchiness, hives or rashes occurring in any part of the body. Additionally, those suffering from food allergies may also feel bloating, abdominal cramps, gas, diarrhea and vomiting.

Tree Allergies

In severe cases, food allergies can be life threatening. Fortunately, this is rarely the case. If you have known food allergies, the best treatment is to avoid the offending food sources. Otherwise, antihistamines may be administered for mild reactions. Corticosteroid creams may be used to treat skin rashes. For life-threatening reactions, an injectable epinephrine such as EpiPen may save your life. Allergy shots can also be administered especially if drugs don't work, or if you are unable to avoid the allergens.

Allergic rhinitis is a form of allergy which affects one in seven Americans. This form of allergy may occur during a specific season as in hay fever. This can also be perennial, meaning it can be a whole year round condition. Both types however, exhibit similar symptoms. Hay fever is commonly caused by pollen from trees (usually during the spring season), grasses and ragweed. On the other hand, perennial allergies are triggered by indoor allergens like dust mites, feathers, mold spores and pet dander. The most common symptoms of allergic rhinitis are itchiness, watery eyes, sneezing, sore throat and stuffy nose. Allergic rhinitis is commonly treated with antihistamines, decongestants and inflammatory sprays.

Allergic asthma is perceived to be a potentially hazardous disease. Once a person with allergic asthma is exposed to offending allergens, breathing difficulty may commence. This is often elicited by allergens such as pollen, spores, mold, feathers, pet dander and cockroach droppings. Allergic asthma is characterized by coughing, wheezing, tightness of the chest and shortness of breath. Bronchodilators are the treatment of choice during allergic asthma attacks. These function to widen the patient's airways and cease sudden attacks.

Skin contact with allergens like poison ivy, skin care products, jewelries and a person's saliva can trigger allergic contact dermatitis. Common symptoms are itchy, dry, red skin patches with blisters. Corticosteriod creams are used to treat the mild forms of contact dermatitis. Oral corticosteroids may be administered for severe cases.

Finally, allergies affect both children and adults. It is observed that adults hardly ever outgrow their allergies completely. However, the symptoms may become lesser and less severe with time. Others also develop allergies as they grow older. The best defense against allergies is through avoidance of the known allergens.

Pollen Allergy Season - 5 Ways to Make Your Life Better

Grass Allergies

If your eyes are burning, your nose is running, and you have a dull headache because of the thick layer of pollen that has suddenly covered the earth, you probably have a pollen allergy. Here are probably some old ideas, and hopefully some new ones to allow you to enjoy the season until the pollen that is affecting you is gone.

Grass Allergies

Invest in a high efficiency particle arresting HEPA air purifier to remove the pollen and let it run continuously to filter the pollen from your indoor air. Pollen size varies from approximately 10 to 10,000 microns, and a HEPA air purifier removes airborne pollutants including pollen and many other pollutants as small as .3 microns.

Park in a garage. If your home has one, now is a great time to put your car in the garage each night to eliminate the thick layer of pollen that accumulates. If you drive to work, try parking in an open space rather than under trees to lessen the pollen that will fall on your car. If possible, see if there is a garage that you can park in while at work to keep you car pollen free.

Clear the walkways to your home. Have someone who is not sensitive to pollen use water to clear the walkways and steps to avoid tracking the pollen into your home or office.

Keep the windows closed. Even a slight breeze, regardless of how wonderful it feels, will bring in thousands of pollen particles.

If you are an avid gardener or just want to be outside, wear a high efficiency particle arresting HEPA mask. These can be found at your local hardware store. Of course a mask probably is not something you would feel comfortable wearing to a party, but if you are in the yard around your home, a mask will surely help.

Grass Allergies

Using a HEPA air purifier, parking in a garage, clearing the paths to your home and/or office, keeping the windows closed, and wearing a mask when possible will help improve your quality of life, and make the most of the pollen season.
