Are you worried that your overweight cat is not getting enough to drink? You have probably tried different methods to get your cat to drink but none seems to be working. Not too worry, you are not alone. Cats can be very finicky and are not big water drinkers.
Here are some signs that your overweight cat is not drinking enough.
Constipation: Have you been noticing usual bowel movements in your cat lately. When your cat is not drinking enough, you will start noticing signs of constipation.
Thick Saliva: If you notice that your cat's saliva is jello-like, it probably means that your pet is not drinking enough. In a normal condition, your overweight cat's saliva should be wet and liquidy.
Fatigue: Is your cat showing signs of fatigue? Is your overweight cat just mopping around the house and has become less active than usual. This is another sign telling you that your cat is not drinking enough water.
When you start noticing these signs in your overweight cat, it's probably too late. The best thing you can do is to take your cat to the veterinary hospital. The veterinarian will be able to administer the right drug to get your cat back in shape.
Cats that don't drink enough are prone to all kinds of diseases. Most of the common diseases are bladder infections, acute kidney failure and kidney stone. These diseases can lead to serious problems and even result in death. Paying close attention to your cat's drinking habit is very important because it will help your pet in the long run from contracting various types of cat diseases.
Getting your overweight cat to drink enough water can be a bit tricky. You might need to start thinking like a cat. There are several ways which you can help your cat drink more water.
Fresh Clean Water: It might seem obvious but overlooked. Make sure your cat has fresh clean water throughout the day. Change the water in the bowl at least three to four times a day. You can add crushed ice cubes to keep the water cool.
Canned Food: Most cat owners prefer to feed their cat's dry food which is not enough to provide the necessary liquid their body needs. Since canned food contains a lot more liquid, your overweight cat will be getting some sort of additional liquid.
Kitty Water Fountain: Though it might cost you some money, a water fountain is probably one of the best ways to get your overweight cat to drink more water. The water fountain will keep the water clean, fresh and even keep your cat entertained.
